in the very same room. today we can thank rosa parks for making it happen. just take a look at this live picture as we speak, a dedication ceremony is getting under way in the u.s. capitol. it's for a statue honoring the won who refused to give up her seat on a city bus in alabama circa 1955. the nation's first african-american president is due to speak in about 40 minutes and you're going to hear from him live right here on cnn and you can follow the ceremony start to finish on cnn.com. all the dignitaries filing into the capitaocapitol. by the werek it will be a houseful with congressional leaders who will join the president. this is a big deal too. while there are many statues in the capitol there are almost none that are a congressional effort so to speak. many private funds feature statues. this is something congress has done for one of the most important women in american history. >>> but we're going to start with multitudes staying good-bye to a pope. he gives up and resigns the leadership of the roman catholic church. this last hurrah of the benedict, it comes -- benedict xvi com

. 70's for portions of the bay area. the fog is forming in the north bay near santa rosa. that is where is expected to be dense. and for the inland valleys. the 8:00 hours, some clearing. with mostly clear skies. sunshine all run the bay area. temperatures are going to be chilly. santa rosa. 40's in san rafael, freezing in fairfield. livermore, pleasanton. and 30's in the bayshore. 44 degrees and for the afternoon very comfortable. mainly in the low 60s but we will see 60s. palo alto, cupertino sunnyvale. 60s in san jose. largely 60s with 56 degrees in richmond and closer to the coast a bit cooler. 68 degrees and 69 in napa. we will continue this dry, warm pattered. it is keeping it well to the north and that is where is it will stay. not much rain but we do need it. the average rainfall we could save nearly 9 in. of rain fall. six in san francisco. this is where we are sitting with rainfall totals just 1 in. in santa rosa. we really need that rainfall but we're not going to get it with warmer conditions. when john kerry sponsored a bill to honor the civil rights activist rosa parks with a statue in the u.s. capitol. it took eight years from the bill being introduced, but today president obama finally unveiled that statue, making rosa parks the first african-american woman to receive this kind of permanent honor in statuary hall in the capitol. in the house, the effort to recognize rosa parks for refusing to give up her seat on a bus for inspiring the montgomery bus boycott, for helping to ignite the civil rights movement, in the house, the rosa parks bill that came to fruition today was sponsored by congressman jesse jackson jr. of illinois. mr. jackson, like mr. kerry, was not around to see the unveiling of the rosa parks statue, and that's because jesse jackson jr. resign his seat in congress amid first health worries and financial worries and ultimately last week plead guilty to misappropriating campaign funds for personal use. because jesse jackson resigned his seat, in a matter of weeks somebody new is going to be there to replace him. late last night we found out who that person

but not too bad. 39 in livermore, 39 in santa rosa and right now the wind for now still somewhat offshore at times, but we will see an onshore push sea breeze by this time tomorrow which means we're going to see cooling temperatures as we finish off the holiday weekend. the radar right now is dry and unfortunately that has been the story of 2013 so far as the semipermanent ridge of high pressure over northern california keeping things dry. the water vapor loop shows you most of the deep moisture riding up to the north and the mid level moisture, the high clouds we'll see at times which will filter the sun at times. the big pattern shift that's going to take place, mild start to the weekend and watch what happens as we get towards tuesday, a cold trough drops in from british columbia, almost a 20-degree drop in temperatures as we get out of the holiday weekend. during the day today you'll see high clouds at times filtering the sunshine and then coastal low clouds likely to return as we get into later on tonight on into your sunday as temperatures cool off for the second half of the weekend

have been dropping off quite a bit. these are the numbers for the 6:00 hour. santa rosa right now in the upper 40s, at 49. san jose currently checking in at 52. san francisco, lower 50s, at 51 degrees. forecast headlines for tonight, we'll go with mostly clear skies, temperatures on the cool side. tomorrow, definitely bundle up for the morning hours, but lots of sunshine into the afternoon. extended, dry weather pattern and temperatures will be warming back up over the next few days. first thing tomorrow morning, we will have some patchy frost out there, especially in some of the inland valleys. tomorrow morning will be cooler than this morning. so you can see napa at 29. san francisco at 42. san jose, 34. still 30s, lower 30s out toward concord and fairfield. high pressure continues to build offshore. as a result, the storm track heads way up to our north. of course we had the rain showers on thursday into early friday morning. look what happens. this high builds in and a dry week ahead. no rainfall chances in our forecast at all. lots of sunshine and temperatures do go up a few
